Manchester Drinks: 3 Classic Rum Cocktails to Try

manchester drinks

When you think of the Stark Brewing Company, you think beer. And that’s great! We’re proud of our beer, and we’re happy to be known for it. But we also know that beer isn’t everybody’s drink. If that’s you, you’ll be happy to know that you can still go out and enjoy Manchester drinks at Stark. We’re not just a brewery, we’re a distillery, too! We distill our own vodka, bourbon, and rum. Today, we want to talk about rum because tomorrow, August 16th, is National Rum Day!

Here are three classic rum cocktails to try when you’re out for Manchester drinks.

Daiquiri

Possibly the most classic of all the classic rum cocktails is the daiquiri. Though it is often served frozen, the classic version is served straight up. The classic, no-frills recipe only has three ingredients: lime juice, rum, and simple syrup. There are many variations on the daiquiri. The strawberry daiquiri is probably the most popular variation, but there are others as well, including the Hemingway daiquiri. The famous writer apparently invented this variation himself. It adds grapefruit juice and Maraschino liqueur to the classic recipe.

Mojito

Speaking of Hemingway, he also made the mojito popular during his time in Cuba in the 1930s. It’s unclear where it first came from. Some say it dates back to the 1500s, while others say it was the 1800s when the Bacardi rum company began. No matter how old it is, there’s no denying this cocktail of rum, simple syrup, lime, mint, and soda water is refreshing.

Piña Colada

You didn’t think we’d leave the piña colada off this list, did you? This popular cocktail has its origins in Puerto Rico and the name means “strained pineapple” in Spanish. It’s so popular, in fact, that Puerto Rico named it their official drink in 1978. There are many different recipes for piña coladas, but they all involve rum, pineapple, and coconut. Sometimes it’s frozen or made with crushed ice. You’ll also find them with frozen pineapple rather than just juice. Try making it with Stark’s coconut rum!

We visited on our travels, what an Amazing find!!! The food was delicious and the services was friendly. The owner even came over to chat and check in. They offered water and a treat for our service dog. The food was cooked to perfection. Tasty and well priced. The Puppy Pilsner was very good.
